Psalms Decoded

PSALM 2 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

PSALM 3 I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

PSALM 5 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

PSALM 6 1 O Lord, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

PSALM 7 So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high.

PSALM 9 When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence. 11 Sing praises to the Lord, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings.

PSALM 11 In the Lord put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? The Lord is in his holy temple, Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

PSALM 15 Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?

PSALM 18 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.
Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.
There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.
He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.
10 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.
11 He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.
12 At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.
13 The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire.
14 Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.
15 Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.
31 For who is God save the Lord? or who is a rock save our God?
46 The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.

PSALM 21 Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger: the Lord shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them. 12 Therefore shalt thou make them turn their back, when thou shalt make ready thine arrows upon thy strings against the face of them.

PSALM 24 Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?

PSALM 26 I will wash mine hands in innocency: so will I compass thine altar, O Lord:

PSALM 28 Unto thee will I cry, O Lord my rock. Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.

PSALM 29 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The voice of the Lord divideth the flames of fire. The voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness; the Lord shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.

PSALM 31 2 be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.
For thou art my rock and my fortress;

PSALM 33 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.

PSALM 37 20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

PSALM 38 O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

PSALM 42 I will say unto God my rock

PSALMS 43 O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.

PSALM 45 Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.

PSALM 46 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. Come, behold the works of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth.

PSALM 47 For the Lord most high is terrible. God is gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet. God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.

PSALM 48 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.

PSALM 50 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. 14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:

PSALMS 58 Let them melt away as waters which run continually: when he bendeth his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces.

PSALM 61 2 lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

PSALM 66 Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works!

PSALM 68 As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. 15 The hill of God is as the hill of Bashan; an high hill as the hill of Bashan.
16 Why leap ye, ye high hills? this is the hill which God desireth to dwell in; yea, the Lord will dwell in it for ever.
17 The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place.

PSALM 69 24 Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.
25 Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.
26 For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.

PSALM 71 3.thou art my rock and my fortress. 19 O God, is very high, who hast done great things.

PSALM 72 The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.

PSALM 74 why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture? Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt. 13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.15 Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.

PSALM 76 In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion. Thou art more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey. Thou, even thou, art to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry? 11 Vow, and pay unto the Lord your God: let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.

PSALM 77

10 And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.
11 I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.
12 I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.
13 Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?
14 Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.
15 Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.
16 The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid: the depths also were troubled.
17 The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: thine arrows also went abroad.
18 The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook.
19 Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known.
